The  Discipline of  Christian Faith

Noah Webster defines discipline as: to train or develop by instruction and exercise: self control.  Interesting that some Christians will dismiss discipline as a vital behavior of our Christian life.  It makes sense, if discipline is a necessary "require" in our natural lives, would it not be moreso in our Spiritual lives.  Interesting point, when a child is Dedicated, the Pastor will ask the parents if they "know the Disciplines of the Bible?"  Part of raising a child in a Christian environment is knowing what the Bible speaks.

Character comes to our disciplined and growing Christian life infused in and by Christ Jesus and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.  A "discipline" is an assistance that builds our Spiritual life and maturity so we can better receive and serve the Lord.

This journey will explore the classic Disciplines of the Christian faith from the biblical standpoint, and how these tools effect our Christian formation as well as our Spiritual growth.

There are twelve (12) Disciplines of the Bible.  Through time all will be presented, let our journey begin.  "Mile 11"...

The Discipline of Solitude

The Discipline of Solitude: Solitude is the practice of our "waiting for God" to act and complete His will, so our focus is on Him and then He fills us.  This is an aspect of private prayer and worship, but instead of doing the talking we cling to Christ in silence and listen.  This means we still ourselves to hear what God has to say.  This is about our willingness to be examined by God, to hear His voice and see His call because we have removed anything in His way.

(Isaiah 40:31) - But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

(Luke 12:36) - And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their Lord, when He will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto Him immediately.

Therefore, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head."  do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.  --Romans 12:20-21
